With advice guided by the CDC, Department of Health, and Education, as well as The Roig Academy community, we have redesigned our classrooms for the age of social distancing.
Read the letter from Head of School, Jennifer Roig, regarding our reopening.
After careful discussion and thought, we, the faculty, and our parents have developed a reopening plan for a safe return to our campus this fall. Fortunately, we will be able to meet your desired choices of educational preference. Our school has taken the necessary precautions for a safe return to campus by implementing CDC guidelines.
As a school, we value your feedback and input and want to thank you for providing your opinions. It brings us great joy that after reviewing a survey submitted to our Roig Academy families, 98% feel that the administration has been open to recommendations and suggestions. We would also like to send a special thanks to Dr. Nuria Lawson and the working group of parents for their time and dedication in developing this plan.
After concluding our reopening presentation during an online meeting held on July 7th, we contacted each family individually and 67% of families elected to have their child(ren) return to campus this fall.
The Roig Academy will be offering two modes of learning for the start of the 2020-2021 school year and school will commence on August 19, 2020, as originally scheduled.
On-Campus Learning Mode: (67%) of families opted for on-campus learning.
Highlights of our precautionary on campus measures:
Student desk cubicle created with plexiglass 3ft wide x 3ft wide x 6ft tall
Classrooms have outdoor covered patios allowing for outdoor learning and lunch to take place and are equipped with fans.
All the classrooms have been equipped with Medical Grade HEPA Air Purifier, 99.9%.
The school has purchased electrostatic sprayers for daily school disinfecting.
Concurrent At-Home Learning Mode: (33%) of families opted for at-home learning. These students will be able to participate in live online learning via Zoom with swivl cameras.
All classrooms have been equipped with SWIVL cameras. This robot rotates to follow the teacher automatically throughout the classroom, allowing the flexibility to move about the room, addressing students that are both physically and virtually present. These cameras are paired with our interactive whiteboards, creating a more authentic and interactive experience for our students at home.
A uniform learning experience will be provided for all students. Books and assignments will be provided in a digital format whether on campus or concurrently. Assignments will be submitted via Apple Schoolwork or Google Classroom.
We are fortunate to have a small school community that has given us the opportunity to make these modifications with the ability to return to the very important learning environment they thrive in. The outpouring of support and guidance from our parents, faculty, and staff has been our driving force and we are very grateful for all the ideas and input.
We are looking forward to seeing you on August 19, 2020, whether on-campus or online.
“I believe they are as prepared as can be to welcome our kids back in-person or virtually to school. The creativity and innovation of their new classrooms equipped with 360 cameras, outdoor learning spaces, and safety see-through walls was amazing to see. Thank you for all you do in protecting and education the people most precious to us.”
We have the following procedures in place for students who are ready to return to campus
Daily Temperature Checks & Screening
All members of The Roig Academy will be temperature checked and screened daily upon arrival.
To limit cross-contamination, while staying true to our educational integrity and philosophy, students may work on assignments using pencil and paper and will be able to submit everything digitally, via our Learning Management Systems.
Staff members and students will all be wearing face masks while on campus.
To limit exposure and to simplify the process of contract tracing, the school has been grouped into cohorts.
Staggered Arrival + Pick-Up
In order to limit contact with others, students will arrive at their assigned drop off and pick-up times.
