Why The Roig?

At The Roig, our students are able to grow both personally and socially, developing 21st century skills such as collaboration, cooperation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and creative and critical thinking.

The Roig Academy is committed to implementing the International Baccaleaureate Programme. The IB strives to develop students will build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect. It is different from other frameworks because it encourages students to think critically and challenge assumptions while considering both local and global contexts.

Throughout the IB Programme, students are able to take responsibility for their own learning. They are encouraged to try different approaches to learning and take responsibility for their own educational process. The Programme helps students ask challenging questions, think critically, and develop research skills that help them in higher education.

Through The IB, Roig Academy students become:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-Minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-Takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

The Roig Academy believes that each student:

  • should build on prior knowledge.
  • should be taught through a concept driven curriculum.
  • should be able to work collaboratively and independently.
  • should learn through different means, taking into account their learning styles.

The World Cardboard Boat Regatta

At The Roig Academy World Cardboard Boat Regatta our students designed and constructed their own cardboard boats. Each boat corresponded to a country, where learners embarked on a mission of in-depth research to learn about their country and design their boat according to their customs. Through vertical and horizontal planning we have been able to bring life and meaning to many aspects of History, Geography, and Science. While in their groups, students have engaged in the inquiry process in order to explore, research and report on their individualized summative projects. We have facilitated opportunities for students to come together to share their ideas, conclusions, and problem solve for The Roig Academy World Cardboard Regatta.
