About The Roig

Our History

We’re the small school with the big heart.

This past year, The Roig Academy celebrated its 24th year serving children and youth in the Miami-Dade community as a private education school. Since its inception, The Roig Academy has been providing an alternative educational milieu for students with a variety of learning strengths and areas of need while preparing them to be lifelong learners of the 21st century. The Roig Academy’s vision was the cumulative product between The Roig Academy’s founding Director Jennifer Roig and the learning community which it serves. In many years, that vision defined The Roig Academy as having a hands-on approach to teaching and learning for families who were seeking the best educational opportunities for their children.

The Roig Academy opened its doors in 2000 with a few dedicated employees, yet it was those impassioned few employees who were guided by the original vision to deliver services unmatched by any other alternative. The drive to provide students with a hands-on and balanced approach to education shaped how all services at The Roig Academy would be delivered and the role of each member within its organization.

About Us - The Roig Approach

Today, The Roig Academy provides educational services to a large population of students with a variety of learning strengths and needs and continues to offer a balanced, best practice approach to education. While The Roig Academy maintains the highest commitment to its vision established at its inception, The Roig Academy’s reach and impact continue to forge new territory beyond that original vision.

Our dedication to providing exceptional educational opportunities in Miami by creating students who are reflective, risk-takers, inquirers and lifelong learners remains our highest priority. However, that dedication extends to the ways in which we work with our stakeholders, collaborate with multidisciplinary services, help our community grow, innovate and evolve into the future as responsible citizens of a global community, as is the goal with all IB World Schools. We celebrate The Roig Academy Academy’s approach to teaching and learning as we nurture student growth in the 21st century.

Letter From School Leadership

As a leader and visionary with more than 20 years of experience in the field of Special Education, Mrs. Jennifer Roig founded The Roig Academy K-8 Day School in 2000 to serve children with learning exceptionalities who experience difficulty in a traditional classroom environment. Over the past two decades, she has succeeded in fulfilling her vision of creating a special education school in Miami with a community where all children feel safe, respected, and loved.

As Head of School, Mrs. Roig recognizes that children should be allowed to think and reason using their own special gifts and talents — a belief that she has integrated into the fabric of The Roig Academy experience alongside cutting-edge technology, parental involvement, and effective pedagogy. To ensure that her students receive the highest-quality education, Mrs. Roig continually seeks ongoing professional development training in best practices and pedagogy to remain abreast of the latest trends and knowledge in her field. She shares this expertise with faculty and staff members by leading them in extensive professional development activities that contribute to an effective learning environment.

About The Roig

Mrs. Roig has expertise in early childhood development, literacy, dyslexia, dual language instruction, and early intervention. She is a lifelong learner and holds an M.Ed. in Emotional Behavior Disorders and Learning Disabilities, making her a highly qualified head of a learning disabilities school. Additionally, she is a Florida Certified Special Education Teacher (Grades K-12), Certified Structured Literacy Teacher, and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Coordinator. She is also a member of leading professional organizations that include the National Association of Special Education Teachers and the Council for Exceptional Children.

A recognized specialist in the field of education, Mrs. Roig has been invited to share her expertise as a guest on several Spanish-language Telemundo television shows. She has also spoken at the Early Learning Coalition’s “Children First: Early Education, Lifelong Success” conference and been a panelist at the Miami Schools Fair and Conference.

We prepare our students for a global society.

Global Curriculum, Specialized Approach: The IB Choice for Students with Dyslexia

The Roig Academy is committed to implementing the International Baccalaureate Programme. The IB strives to develop students will build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect. It is different from other frameworks because it encourages students to think critically and challenge assumptions while considering both local and global contexts. In short, it prepares students at public or private IB schools to think beyond the context of the classroom, truly giving learners the tools they need to succeed outside of an educational setting.

Cognia Accreditation

Cognia

Cognia is the largest community of education professionals in the world. They are a non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous, on-site external reviews of Pre-K-12 schools and school systems to ensure that all learners realize their full potential. While their expertise is grounded in more than a hundred years of work in school accreditation, Cognia is far from a typical accrediting agency. As missions and visions aligned with those of The Roig Academy, it is fitting for our Miami private school to belong to such a prestigious organization as Cognia.
