Executive Function Disorder
The Roig Academy is among a specialized independent network of schools throughout the world that are designed for students with learning differences.
Why The Roig?
We understand that children with learning differences, such as Dyslexia and Dyscalculia, require teaching styles and methodologies that are not found in a typical classroom.
Educators at The Roig Academy have a thorough understanding of the learning differences that each of its students may be diagnosed with.
What is executive function disorder?
An inefficiency in the cognitive management systems of the brain that affects a variety of neuropsychological processes such as planning, organizing, strategizing, paying attention to and remembering details, and managing time and space. Although not a learning disability, different patterns of weakness in executive functioning are almost always seen in the learning profiles of individuals who have specific learning disabilities or ADHD. As a school for ADHD, executive function disorder, and other learning differences, we understand the unique needs that each child has and are committed to meeting those needs.
How do I know if my child may have executive function disorder?
A psychoeducational evaluation to discover and diagnosis any learning difference is strongly recommended. Doing this early in a child’s educational career can allow you to make informed decisions about your child’s education and make the decision to either keep them in their current classroom situation or find a school that better caters to their needs.
- Often avoids responsibilities and leaves them until the last minute
- Has a hard time “taking a joke” and takes things personally
- Has a hard time moving to the next activity
- Has trouble being organized
- Misses the “big picture,” and tends to focus on the details.
