Student Life
Learning in Action
At The Roig Academy, learning is active, connected, and rooted in real experiences. Students do not simply receive instruction. They participate in it, shape it, and carry it forward.
The initiatives below show how curiosity, care, and leadership are encouraged every day on our campus.
Leo, Our School Therapy Dog
Leo is a gentle and steady presence in our school community. He participates in morning meetings, joins small-group reading time, visits classrooms when and welcomes students and families at arrival and dismissal. His presence helps students feel calm, confident, and ready to learn.
What students experience:
- A sense of comfort and emotional grounding
- Confidence when reading or speaking in groups
- A warm and welcoming school environment
This is where belonging begins.
Future Teachers of America Chapter
Students step into leadership roles by supporting younger learners during reading and math lessons. They help guide small group discussions, model learning routines, and collaborate to design simple learning activities. Participation in this chapter encourages students to view themselves as contributors to the learning community, both now and in the future.
What students experience:
- Leadership and responsibility
- Service to others and collaboration across age levels
- Reflection on how learning and teaching are connected
This is where leadership grows.
The Butterfly Garden Living Classroom
Our butterfly garden began as a student idea during a unit on life cycles. It has since become a shared learning space that blends science, observation, writing, and art. Students care for the habitat, study plant and butterfly life, and keep field journals to record their discoveries. The garden invites students to learn through curiosity, care, and stewardship.
What students experience:
- Inquiry through observation and research
- Responsibility for caring for the environment
- A deeper connection between classroom learning and the living world
This is where curiousity takes root.
